Surah Al-Waqi’ah
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
اِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُۙ١
Iżā waqa‘atil-wāqi‘ah(tu).
[1]
When the Occurrence occurs,
لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ ۘ٢
Laisa liwaq‘atihā kāżibah(tun).
[2]
There is, at its occurrence, no denial.
خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ٣
Khāfiḍatur rāfi‘ah(tun).
[3]
It will bring down [some] and raise up [others].
اِذَا رُجَّتِ الْاَرْضُ رَجًّاۙ٤
Iżā rujjatil-arḍu rajjā(n).
[4]
When the earth is shaken with convulsion
وَّبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّاۙ٥
Wa bussatil-jibālu bassā(n).
[5]
And the mountains are broken down, crumbling
فَكَانَتْ هَبَاۤءً مُّنْۢبَثًّاۙ٦
Fa kānat habā'am mumbaṡṡā(n).
[6]
And become dust dispersing.
وَّكُنْتُمْ اَزْوَاجًا ثَلٰثَةً ۗ٧
Wa kuntum azwājan ṡalāṡah(tan).
[7]
And you become [of] three kinds:
فَاَصْحٰبُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ ەۙ مَآ اَصْحٰبُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ ۗ٨
Fa aṣḥābul-maimanah(ti), mā aṣḥābul-maimanah(ti).
[8]
Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?
وَاَصْحٰبُ الْمَشْـَٔمَةِ ەۙ مَآ اَصْحٰبُ الْمَشْـَٔمَةِ ۗ٩
Wa aṣḥābul-masy'amah(ti), mā aṣḥābul-masy'amah(ti).
[9]
And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left?
وَالسّٰبِقُوْنَ السّٰبِقُوْنَۙ١٠
Was-sābiqūnas-sābiqūn(a).
[10]
And the forerunners, the forerunners -
اُولٰۤىِٕكَ الْمُقَرَّبُوْنَۚ١١
Ulā'ikal-muqarrabūn(a).
[11]
Those are the ones brought near [to Allah]
فِيْ جَنّٰتِ النَّعِيْمِ١٢
Fī jannātin-na‘īm(i).
[12]
In the Gardens of Pleasure,
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْاَوَّلِيْنَۙ١٣
Ṡullatum minal-awwalīn(a).
[13]
A [large] company of the former peoples
وَقَلِيْلٌ مِّنَ الْاٰخِرِيْنَۗ١٤
Wa qalīlum minal-ākhirīn(a).
[14]
And a few of the later peoples,
عَلٰى سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُوْنَةٍۙ١٥
‘Alā sururim mauḍūnah(tin).
[15]
On thrones woven [with ornament],
مُّتَّكِـِٕيْنَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقٰبِلِيْنَ١٦
Muttaki'īna ‘alaihā mutaqābilīn(a).
[16]
Reclining on them, facing each other.
يَطُوْفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُّخَلَّدُوْنَۙ١٧
Yaṭūfu ‘alaihim wildānum mukhalladūn(a).
[17]
There will circulate among them young boys made eternal
بِاَكْوَابٍ وَّاَبَارِيْقَۙ وَكَأْسٍ مِّنْ مَّعِيْنٍۙ١٨
Bi'akwābiw wa abārīq(a), wa ka'sim mim ma‘īn(in).
[18]
With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring -
لَّا يُصَدَّعُوْنَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنْزِفُوْنَۙ١٩
Lā yuṣadda‘ūna ‘anhā wa lā yunzifūn(a).
[19]
No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated -
وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُوْنَۙ٢٠
Wa fākihatim mimmā yatakhayyarūn(a).
[20]
And fruit of what they select
وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُوْنَۗ٢١
Wa laḥmi ṭairim mimmā yasytahūn(a).
[21]
And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire.
وَحُوْرٌ عِيْنٌۙ٢٢
Wa ḥūrun ‘īn(un).
[22]
And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes,
كَاَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُوْنِۚ٢٣
Ka'amṡālil-lu'lu'il-maknūn(i).
[23]
The likenesses of pearls well-protected,
جَزَاۤءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوْا يَعْمَلُوْنَ٢٤
Jazā'am bimā kānū ya‘malūn(a).
[24]
As reward for what they used to do.
لَا يَسْمَعُوْنَ فِيْهَا لَغْوًا وَّلَا تَأْثِيْمًاۙ٢٥
Lā yasma‘ūna fīhā lagwaw wa lā ta'ṡīmā(n).
[25]
They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin -
اِلَّا قِيْلًا سَلٰمًا سَلٰمًا٢٦
Illā qīlan salāman salāmā(n).
[26]
Only a saying: "Peace, peace."
وَاَصْحٰبُ الْيَمِيْنِ ەۙ مَآ اَصْحٰبُ الْيَمِيْنِۗ٢٧
Wa aṣḥābul-yamīn(i), mā aṣḥābul-yamīn(i).
[27]
The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?
فِيْ سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُوْدٍۙ٢٨
Fī sidrim makhḍūd(in).
[28]
[They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed
وَّطَلْحٍ مَّنْضُوْدٍۙ٢٩
Wa ṭalḥim manḍūd(in).
[29]
And [banana] trees layered [with fruit]
وَّظِلٍّ مَّمْدُوْدٍۙ٣٠
Wa ẓillim mamdūd(in).
[30]
And shade extended
وَّمَاۤءٍ مَّسْكُوْبٍۙ٣١
Wa mā'im maskūb(in).
[31]
And water poured out
وَّفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيْرَةٍۙ٣٢
Wa fākihatin kaṡīrah(tin).
[32]
And fruit, abundant [and varied],
لَّا مَقْطُوْعَةٍ وَّلَا مَمْنُوْعَةٍۙ٣٣
Lā maqṭū‘atiw wa lā mamnū‘ah(tin).
[33]
Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden,
وَّفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوْعَةٍۗ٣٤
Wa furusyim marfū‘ah(tin).
[34]
And [upon] beds raised high.
اِنَّآ اَنْشَأْنٰهُنَّ اِنْشَاۤءًۙ٣٥
Innā ansya'nāhunna insyā'ā(n).
[35]
Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation
فَجَعَلْنٰهُنَّ اَبْكَارًاۙ٣٦
Faja‘alnāhunna abkārā(n).
[36]
And made them virgins,
عُرُبًا اَتْرَابًاۙ٣٧
‘Uruban atrābā(n).
[37]
Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age,
لِّاَصْحٰبِ الْيَمِيْنِۗ٣٨
Li'aṣḥābil-yamīn(i).
[38]
For the companions of the right [who are]
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْاَوَّلِيْنَۙ٣٩
Ṡullatum minal-awwalīn(a).
[39]
A company of the former peoples
وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْاٰخِرِيْنَۗ ࣖ٤٠
Wa ṡullatum minal-ākhirīn(a).
[40]
And a company of the later peoples.
وَاَصْحٰبُ الشِّمَالِ ەۙ مَآ اَصْحٰبُ الشِّمَالِۗ٤١
Wa aṣḥābusy-syimāl(i), mā aṣḥābusy-syimāl(i).
[41]
And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left?
فِيْ سَمُوْمٍ وَّحَمِيْمٍۙ٤٢
Fī samūmiw wa ḥamīm(in).
[42]
[They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water
وَّظِلٍّ مِّنْ يَّحْمُوْمٍۙ٤٣
Wa ẓillim miy yaḥmūm(in).
[43]
And a shade of black smoke,
لَّا بَارِدٍ وَّلَا كَرِيْمٍ٤٤
Lā bāridiw wa lā karīm(in).
[44]
Neither cool nor beneficial.
اِنَّهُمْ كَانُوْا قَبْلَ ذٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِيْنَۚ٤٥
Innahum kānū qabla żālika mutrafīn(a).
[45]
Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence,
وَكَانُوْا يُصِرُّوْنَ عَلَى الْحِنْثِ الْعَظِيْمِۚ٤٦
Wa kānū yuṣirrūna ‘alal-ḥinṡil-‘aẓīm(i).
[46]
And they used to persist in the great violation,
وَكَانُوْا يَقُوْلُوْنَ ەۙ اَىِٕذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَّعِظَامًا ءَاِنَّا لَمَبْعُوْثُوْنَۙ٤٧
Wa kānū yaqūlūn(a), a'iżā mitnā wa kunnā turābaw wa ‘iẓāman a'innā lamab‘ūṡūn(a).
[47]
And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
اَوَاٰبَاۤؤُنَا الْاَوَّلُوْنَ٤٨
Awa'ābā'unal-awwalūn(a).
[48]
And our forefathers [as well]?"
قُلْ اِنَّ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ وَالْاٰخِرِيْنَۙ٤٩
Qul innal-awwalīna wal-ākhirīn(a).
[49]
Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples
لَمَجْمُوْعُوْنَۙ اِلٰى مِيْقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُوْمٍ٥٠
Lamajmū‘ūn(a), ilā mīqāti yaumim ma‘lūm(in).
[50]
Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day."
ثُمَّ اِنَّكُمْ اَيُّهَا الضَّاۤ لُّوْنَ الْمُكَذِّبُوْنَۙ٥١
Ṡumma innakum ayyuhaḍ-ḍāllūnal-mukażżibūn(a).
[51]
Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers,
لَاٰكِلُوْنَ مِنْ شَجَرٍ مِّنْ زَقُّوْمٍۙ٥٢
La'ākilūna min syajarim min zaqqūm(in).
[52]
Will be eating from trees of zaqqum
فَمَالِـُٔوْنَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُوْنَۚ٥٣
Fa māli'ūna minhal-buṭūn(a).
[53]
And filling with it your bellies
فَشٰرِبُوْنَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيْمِۚ٥٤
Fasyāribūna ‘alaihi minal-ḥamīm(i).
[54]
And drinking on top of it from scalding water
فَشٰرِبُوْنَ شُرْبَ الْهِيْمِۗ٥٥
Fa syāribūna syurbal-hīm(i).
[55]
And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels.
هٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّيْنِۗ٥٦
Hāżā nuzuluhum yaumad-dīn(i).
[56]
That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense.
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُوْنَ٥٧
Naḥnu khalaqnākum falau lā tuṣaddiqūn(a).
[57]
We have created you, so why do you not believe?
اَفَرَءَيْتُمْ مَّا تُمْنُوْنَۗ٥٨
Afa ra'aitum mā tumnūn(a).
[58]
Have you seen that which you emit?
ءَاَنْتُمْ تَخْلُقُوْنَهٗٓ اَمْ نَحْنُ الْخٰلِقُوْنَ٥٩
A'antum takhluqūnahū am naḥnul-khāliqūn(a).
[59]
Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator?
نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوْقِيْنَۙ٦٠
Naḥnu qaddarnā bainakumul-mauta wa mā naḥnu bimasbūqīn(a).
[60]
We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone
عَلٰٓى اَنْ نُّبَدِّلَ اَمْثَالَكُمْ وَنُنْشِئَكُمْ فِيْ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ٦١
‘Alā an nubaddila amṡālakum wa nunsyi'akum fī mā lā ta‘lamūn(a).
[61]
In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know.
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْاَةَ الْاُوْلٰى فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُوْنَ٦٢
Wa laqad ‘alimtumun-nasy'atal-ūlā falau lā tażakkarūn(a).
[62]
And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember?
اَفَرَءَيْتُمْ مَّا تَحْرُثُوْنَۗ٦٣
Afara'aitum mā taḥruṡūn(a).
[63]
And have you seen that [seed] which you sow?
ءَاَنْتُمْ تَزْرَعُوْنَهٗٓ اَمْ نَحْنُ الزّٰرِعُوْنَ٦٤
A'antum tazra‘ūnahū am naḥnuz-zāri‘ūn(a).
[64]
Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower?
لَوْ نَشَاۤءُ لَجَعَلْنٰهُ حُطَامًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُوْنَۙ٦٥
Lau nasyā'u laja‘alnāhu ḥuṭāman fa ẓaltum tafakkahūn(a).
[65]
If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder,
اِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُوْنَۙ٦٦
Innā lamugramūn(a).
[66]
[Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt;
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُوْمُوْنَ٦٧
Bal naḥnu maḥrūmūn(a).
[67]
Rather, we have been deprived."
اَفَرَءَيْتُمُ الْمَاۤءَ الَّذِيْ تَشْرَبُوْنَۗ٦٨
Afa ra'aitumul-mā'al-lażī tasyrabūn(a).
[68]
And have you seen the water that you drink?
ءَاَنْتُمْ اَنْزَلْتُمُوْهُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ اَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنْزِلُوْنَ٦٩
A'antum anzaltumūhu minal-muzni am naḥnul-munzilūn(a).
[69]
Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down?
لَوْ نَشَاۤءُ جَعَلْنٰهُ اُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُوْنَ٧٠
Lau nasyā'u ja‘alnāhu ujājan falau lā tasykurūn(a).
[70]
If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?
اَفَرَءَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِيْ تُوْرُوْنَۗ٧١
Afa ra'aitumun-nāral-latī tūrūn(a).
[71]
And have you seen the fire that you ignite?
ءَاَنْتُمْ اَنْشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ اَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنْشِـُٔوْنَ٧٢
A'antum ansya'tum syajaratahā am naḥnul-munsyi'ūn(a).
[72]
Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer?
نَحْنُ جَعَلْنٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَّمَتَاعًا لِّلْمُقْوِيْنَۚ٧٣
Naḥnu ja‘alnāhā tażkirataw wa matā‘al lil-muqwīn(a).
[73]
We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers,
فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيْمِ ࣖ٧٤
Fa sabbiḥ bismi rabbikal-‘aẓīm(i).
[74]
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
۞ فَلَآ اُقْسِمُ بِمَوٰقِعِ النُّجُوْمِ٧٥
Falā uqsimu bimawāqi‘in-nujūm(i).
[75]
Then I swear by the setting of the stars,
وَاِنَّهٗ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُوْنَ عَظِيْمٌۙ٧٦
Wa innahū laqasamul lau ta‘lamūna ‘aẓīm(un).
[76]
And indeed, it is an oath - if you could know - [most] great.
اِنَّهٗ لَقُرْاٰنٌ كَرِيْمٌۙ٧٧
Innahū laqur'ānun karīm(un).
[77]
Indeed, it is a noble Qur'an
فِيْ كِتٰبٍ مَّكْنُوْنٍۙ٧٨
Fī kitābim maknūn(in).
[78]
In a Register well-protected;
لَّا يَمَسُّهٗٓ اِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُوْنَۗ٧٩
Lā yamassuhū illal-muṭahharūn(a).
[79]
None touch it except the purified.
تَنْزِيْلٌ مِّنْ رَّبِّ الْعٰلَمِيْنَ٨٠
Tanzīlum mir rabbil-‘ālamīn(a).
[80]
[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
اَفَبِهٰذَا الْحَدِيْثِ اَنْتُمْ مُّدْهِنُوْنَۙ٨١
Afa biḥāżal-ḥadīṡi antum mudhinūn(a).
[81]
Then is it to this statement that you are indifferent
وَتَجْعَلُوْنَ رِزْقَكُمْ اَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُوْنَ٨٢
Wa taj‘alūna rizqakum annakum tukażżibūn(a).
[82]
And make [the thanks for] your provision that you deny [the Provider]?
فَلَوْلَآ اِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُوْمَۙ٨٣
Falau lā iżā balagatil-ḥulqūm(a).
[83]
Then why, when the soul at death reaches the throat
وَاَنْتُمْ حِيْنَىِٕذٍ تَنْظُرُوْنَۙ٨٤
Wa antum ḥīna'iżin tanẓurūn(a).
[84]
And you are at that time looking on -
وَنَحْنُ اَقْرَبُ اِلَيْهِ مِنْكُمْ وَلٰكِنْ لَّا تُبْصِرُوْنَ٨٥
Wa naḥnu aqrabu ilaihi minkum wa lākil lā tubṣirūn(a).
[85]
And Our angels are nearer to him than you, but you do not see -
فَلَوْلَآ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِيْنِيْنَۙ٨٦
Falau lā in kuntum gaira madīnīn(a).
[86]
Then why do you not, if you are not to be recompensed,
تَرْجِعُوْنَهَآ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِيْنَ٨٧
Tarji‘ūnahā in kuntum ṣādiqīn(a).
[87]
Bring it back, if you should be truthful?
فَاَمَّآ اِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِيْنَۙ٨٨
Fa ammā in kāna minal-muqarrabīn(a).
[88]
And if the deceased was of those brought near to Allah,
فَرَوْحٌ وَّرَيْحَانٌ ەۙ وَّجَنَّتُ نَعِيْمٍ٨٩
Fa rauḥuw wa raiḥān(un), wa jannatu na‘īm(in).
[89]
Then [for him is] rest and bounty and a garden of pleasure.
وَاَمَّآ اِنْ كَانَ مِنْ اَصْحٰبِ الْيَمِيْنِۙ٩٠
Wa ammā in kāna min aṣḥābil-yamīn(i).
[90]
And if he was of the companions of the right,
فَسَلٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ اَصْحٰبِ الْيَمِيْنِۗ٩١
Fa salāmul laka min aṣḥābil-yamīn(i).
[91]
Then [the angels will say], "Peace for you; [you are] from the companions of the right."
وَاَمَّآ اِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِيْنَ الضَّاۤلِّيْنَۙ٩٢
Wa ammā in kāna minal-mukażżibīnaḍ-ḍāllīn(a).
[92]
But if he was of the deniers [who were] astray,
فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيْمٍۙ٩٣
Fa nuzulum min ḥamīm(in).
[93]
Then [for him is] accommodation of scalding water
وَّتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيْمٍ٩٤
Wa taṣliyatu jaḥīm(in).
[94]
And burning in Hellfire
اِنَّ هٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْيَقِيْنِۚ٩٥
Inna hāżā lahuwal-ḥaqqul-yaqīn(i).
[95]
Indeed, this is the true certainty,
فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيْمِ ࣖ٩٦
Fa sabbiḥ bismi rabbikal-‘aẓīm(i).
[96]
So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.
