Surah An-Najm
Wan-najmi iżā hawā.
[1]
By the star when it descends,
Mā ḍalla ṣāḥibukum wa mā gawā.
[2]
Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred,
Wa mā yanṭiqu ‘anil-hawā.
[3]
Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination.
In huwa illā waḥyuy yūḥā.
[4]
It is not but a revelation revealed,
‘Allamahū syadīdul-quwā.
[5]
Taught to him by one intense in strength -
Żū mirrah(tin), fastawā.
[6]
One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form
Wa huwa bil-ufuqil-a‘lā.
[7]
While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon.
Ṡumma danā fa tadallā.
[8]
Then he approached and descended
Fa kāna qāba qausaini au adnā.
[9]
And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer.
Fa auḥā ilā ‘abdihī mā auḥā.
[10]
And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed.
Mā każabal-fu'ādu mā ra'ā.
[11]
The heart did not lie [about] what it saw.
Afa tumārūnahū ‘alā mā yarā.
[12]
So will you dispute with him over what he saw?
Wa laqad ra'āhu nazlatan ukhrā.
[13]
And he certainly saw him in another descent
‘Inda sidratil-muntahā.
[14]
At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary -
‘Indahā jannatul-ma'wā.
[15]
Near it is the Garden of Refuge -
Iż yagsyas-sidrata mā yagsyā.
[16]
When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it].
Mā zāgal-baṣaru wa mā ṭagā.
[17]
The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit].
Laqad ra'ā min āyāti rabbihil-kubrā.
[18]
He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord.
Afa ra'aitumul-lāta wal-‘uzzā.
[19]
So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza?
Wa manātaṡ-ṡāliṡatal-ukhrā.
[20]
And Manat, the third - the other one?
Alakumuż-żakaru wa lahul-unṡā.
[21]
Is the male for you and for Him the female?
Tilka iżan qismatun ḍīzā.
[22]
That, then, is an unjust division.
In hiya illā asmā'un sammaitumūhā antum wa ābā'ukum mā anzalallāhu bihā min sulṭān(in), iy yattabi‘ūna illaẓ-ẓanna wa mā tahwal-anfus(u), wa laqad jā'ahum mir rabbihimul-hudā.
[23]
They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance.
Am lil-insāni mā tamannā.
[24]
Or is there for man whatever he wishes?
Fa lillāhil-ākhiratu wal-ūlā.
[25]
Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life].
Wa kam mim malakin fis-samāwāti lā tugnī syafā‘atuhum syai'an illā mim ba‘di ay ya'żanallāhu limay yasyā'u wa yarḍā.
[26]
And how many angels there are in the heavens whose intercession will not avail at all except [only] after Allah has permitted [it] to whom He wills and approves.
Innal-lażīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati layusammūnal-malā'ikata tasmiyatal-unṡā.
[27]
Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels female names,
Wa mā lahum bihī min ‘ilm(in), iy yattabi‘ūna illaẓ-ẓann(a), wa innaẓ-ẓanna lā yugnī minal-ḥaqqi syai'ā(n).
[28]
And they have thereof no knowledge. They follow not except assumption, and indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all.
Fa a‘riḍ ‘am man tawallā, ‘an żikrinā wa lam yurid illal-ḥayātad-dun-yā.
[29]
So turn away from whoever turns his back on Our message and desires not except the worldly life.
Żālika mablaguhum minal-‘ilm(i), inna rabbaka huwa a‘lamu biman ḍalla ‘an sabīlih(ī), wa huwa a‘lamu bimanihtadā.
[30]
That is their sum of knowledge. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who strays from His way, and He is most knowing of who is guided.
Wa lillāhi mā fis-samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍ(i), liyajziyal-lażīna asā'ū bimā ‘amilū wa yajziyal-lażīna aḥsanū bil-ḥusnā.
[31]
And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth - that He may recompense those who do evil with [the penalty of] what they have done and recompense those who do good with the best [reward] -
Allażīna yajtanibūna kabā'iral-iṡmi wal-fawāḥisya illal-lamam(a), inna rabbaka wāsi‘ul-magfirah(ti), huwa a‘lamu bikum iż ansya'akum minal-arḍi wa iż antum ajinnatun fī buṭūni ummahātikum, falā tuzakkū anfusakum, huwa a‘lamu bimanittaqā.
[32]
Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight ones. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He was most knowing of you when He produced you from the earth and when you were fetuses in the wombs of your mothers. So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him.
Afa ra'aital-lażī tawallā.
[33]
Have you seen the one who turned away
Wa a‘ṭā qalīlaw wa akdā.
[34]
And gave a little and [then] refrained?
A‘indahū ‘ilmul-gaibi fahuwa yarā.
[35]
Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees?
Am lam yunabba' bimā fī ṣuḥufi mūsā.
[36]
Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses
Wa ibrāhīmal-lażī waffā.
[37]
And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations] -
Allā taziru wāziratuw wizra ukhrā.
[38]
That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another
Wa al laisa lil-insāni illā mā sa‘ā.
[39]
And that there is not for man except that [good] for which he strives
Wa anna sa‘yahū saufa yurā.
[40]
And that his effort is going to be seen -
Ṡumma yujzāhul-jazā'al-aufā.
[41]
Then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense
Wa anna ilā rabbikal-muntahā.
[42]
And that to your Lord is the finality
Wa annahū huwa aḍḥaka wa abkā.
[43]
And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep
Wa annahū huwa amāta wa aḥyā.
[44]
And that it is He who causes death and gives life
Wa annahū khalaqaz-zaujainiż-żakara wal-unṡā.
[45]
And that He creates the two mates - the male and female -
Min nuṭfatin iżā tumnā.
[46]
From a sperm-drop when it is emitted
Wa anna ‘alaihin nasy'atal-ukhrā.
[47]
And that [incumbent] upon Him is the next creation
Wa annahū huwa agnā wa aqnā.
[48]
And that it is He who enriches and suffices
Wa annahū huwa rabbusy-syi‘rā.
[49]
And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius
Wa annahū ahlaka ‘ādanil-ūlā.
[50]
And that He destroyed the first [people of] 'Aad
Wa ṡamūda famā abqā.
[51]
And Thamud - and He did not spare [them] -
Wa qauma nūḥim min qabl(u), innahum kānū hum aẓlama wa aṭgā.
[52]
And the people of Noah before. Indeed, it was they who were [even] more unjust and oppressing.
Wal-mu'tafikata ahwā.
[53]
And the overturned towns He hurled down
Fa gasysyāhā mā gasysyā.
[54]
And covered them by that which He covered.
Fa bi'ayyi ālā'i rabbika tatamārā.
[55]
Then which of the favors of your Lord do you doubt?
Hāżā nażīrum minan-nużuril-ūlā.
[56]
This [Prophet] is a warner like the former warners.
Azifatil-āzifah(tu).
[57]
The Approaching Day has approached.
Laisa lahā min dūnillāhi kāsyifah(tun).
[58]
Of it, [from those] besides Allah, there is no remover.
Afamin hāżal-ḥadīṡi ta‘jabūn(a).
[59]
Then at this statement do you wonder?
Wa taḍḥakūna wa lā tabkūn(a).
[60]
And you laugh and do not weep
Wa antum sāmidūn(a).
[61]
While you are proudly sporting?
Fasjudū lillāhi wa‘budū.
[62]
So prostrate to Allah and worship [Him].
